My ten pages for the Red Planet Prize are done and I'm now just waiting for a little information to complete one little bit. I will attempt to get around to finishing the entire script as soon as possible.
I've started another novel. "But you haven't even started the first one yet?" Well I know this, but I have decided to write two at the same time. Why? I don't have a clue. I shall be writing them when I get in from work at night.... and THIS time I WILL be writing them.
Then I'll start to prep my third rewrite of Faith, which has yet again reverted back to its original title.
Oh, if any directors are reading this..... BUY MY BLOODY SHORT SCRIPTS YOU STINGY BASTARDS!!!!!!
July was a busy month so it was nice to be able to have a week off at the start of August.
The Screenwriters' Festival was a success and I managed to come away with a few contacts. None of them have come to fruition yet, but it's still only early days.
Three people have emailed me recently to request scripts, so I'm hoping at least one of them will make something of mine.
Gnome has made the first round of the BSSC 2008. Goodbye is still being considered by South West Screen for their Digital Shorts Programme.
Mr. Vista should be shooting sometime soon, so I have been informed. And Tim is also getting Epitaph ready for entry into Cinema Extreme.
So I've had a reply from the producer who was interested in my work at SWF 2008. He likes the idea of Wonderland and loves some of the characters, but doesn't think it has an end yet. He's right, it doesn't, something I'm going to have to correct.
He does seem genuinely interested in the project as he keeps mentioning other projects that are being made based on the same material. He might be concerned that it's too similar to other stuff, but I don't think he needs to worry as I've made sure that the plot is as individual as possible, far enough removed from the original source material that it's different.
He also asked to see other examples of my work so I have sent him Cross The Rubicon, a good example of the kind of characters I can create.
So I need to get my head down and work on the series bible some more. Let's hope he likes the next version.
I'm back from the festival and what a great time I had. It'll probably take me a month to email everyone I met, send scripts out, etc. It was that good.
Among the highlights of the festival where meeting James Moran, Tony Jordan, Mike Leigh and our big extended family of screenwriting bloggers.
I will be definitely going next year.
The last week or so I've been editing a friend's script. It's a fantastic monster/horror flick, really low budget, with fantastic characters and a superbly thought out plot. So why have I poked my nose in?
All I've done is tighten the action, which did ramble on a bit, and worked on the dialogue, so each of the characters sound genuine. On occasion it was difficult to tell who was speaking, but with a little bit of fiddling it has now (mostly) been sorted.
As for my own stuff... Jump is now complete and with a director. Gnome still hasn't found a home so I might just enter it into the BSSC 2008.
Next up is work on the pilot episode outline for Second Skin. Oh, and a DVD dropped on my hall mat from Norway...WOO HOO!!!!! I'll add it to the website when I figure out how to do it.
