Harsh Times

Thursday, October 30, 2008

Got a reply from an agent today. He liked my work, but is cutting his screenwriters list down at the moment and taking on more novelists. They provide a more consistent income so I'm told. So near, yet, as usual, so far.

I don't like "but", it's a horrible word, but it's always there in those rejection letters or emails. My life seems to revolve around the word "but". It haunts me! I long to read a letter from a producer or agent that doesn't contain the word "but".

Red Planet Prize

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

The Red Planet Prize is taking up most of my time at the moment. Second Skin now has just over thirty pages and The Roaring Forties is on page fifteen. I want both of them finished by the end of the month (if I can), so I need to get my head down and crack on.

I'm also going to chase up agents and production companies who have copies of my scripts, so that I know where I stand.

September Round Up

Friday, October 03, 2008

September was a quiet month on the writing front, as I spent a considerable amount of time working on my Red Planet Prize entry.

Three of my Mr. Vista episodes for the web series go before the camera this weekend. I might even be persuaded to direct one.

October is going to be spent writing the entire Second Skin pilot episode and the Roaring Forties pilot with Brendan O'Neil.

Both my novels' plots are taking shape and will soon be ready for writing.

Emails Are Great

Thursday, September 25, 2008

I got a great email back the other day from a production company. No they didn't want to buy my script, but they did say that they thought I should at the very least be writing for current TV drama. They liked my writing that much!

They even gave me some names of agents to go to using their name as a reference (which is why I'm not naming names here). I've emailed those agents so I'll wait to hear back from them. It might finally be my way in. Excellent!

Night Owl

I'm working hard on the outline of my novel The Forest King, mostly working on it at night. No child whizzing around my ankles to disturb me. I can't wait to start writing.

My Red Planet Prize entry is nearly done, after a little help from Lucy. I really believe I have a chance this year so I'm making every effort to make sure this is the best entry ever.

A Writer Writes

Friday, September 05, 2008

I'm currently working on two novels (Guardians and The Forest King) as well as a load of screenwriting projects. Sometimes I wonder if I overload myself too much and should really be concentrating on one or two projects at the most? But I have so many stories in my head, stories that I need to tell...and now!

I know what will happen I'll get part way through something and drop it, or do what I've done to Mr. Valentine and Faith, write the first draft and leave it there. It's naughty really, I should be more motivated and finish what I start, but sometimes a new idea will pop into my head and push an old one to the back for the time being.

Over the next two months I am aiming to apply for everything, and I do mean everything. I'm going to work hard on every idea I have and not let an opportunity pass me by.

You're only a writer if you write after all.
