I'm currently working on two novels (Guardians and The Forest King) as well as a load of screenwriting projects. Sometimes I wonder if I overload myself too much and should really be concentrating on one or two projects at the most? But I have so many stories in my head, stories that I need to tell...and now!
I know what will happen I'll get part way through something and drop it, or do what I've done to Mr. Valentine and Faith, write the first draft and leave it there. It's naughty really, I should be more motivated and finish what I start, but sometimes a new idea will pop into my head and push an old one to the back for the time being.
Over the next two months I am aiming to apply for everything, and I do mean everything. I'm going to work hard on every idea I have and not let an opportunity pass me by.
You're only a writer if you write after all.
My ten pages for the Red Planet Prize are done and I'm now just waiting for a little information to complete one little bit. I will attempt to get around to finishing the entire script as soon as possible.
I've started another novel. "But you haven't even started the first one yet?" Well I know this, but I have decided to write two at the same time. Why? I don't have a clue. I shall be writing them when I get in from work at night.... and THIS time I WILL be writing them.
Then I'll start to prep my third rewrite of Faith, which has yet again reverted back to its original title.
Oh, if any directors are reading this..... BUY MY BLOODY SHORT SCRIPTS YOU STINGY BASTARDS!!!!!!
July was a busy month so it was nice to be able to have a week off at the start of August.
The Screenwriters' Festival was a success and I managed to come away with a few contacts. None of them have come to fruition yet, but it's still only early days.
Three people have emailed me recently to request scripts, so I'm hoping at least one of them will make something of mine.
Gnome has made the first round of the BSSC 2008. Goodbye is still being considered by South West Screen for their Digital Shorts Programme.
Mr. Vista should be shooting sometime soon, so I have been informed. And Tim is also getting Epitaph ready for entry into Cinema Extreme.
So I've had a reply from the producer who was interested in my work at SWF 2008. He likes the idea of Wonderland and loves some of the characters, but doesn't think it has an end yet. He's right, it doesn't, something I'm going to have to correct.
He does seem genuinely interested in the project as he keeps mentioning other projects that are being made based on the same material. He might be concerned that it's too similar to other stuff, but I don't think he needs to worry as I've made sure that the plot is as individual as possible, far enough removed from the original source material that it's different.
He also asked to see other examples of my work so I have sent him Cross The Rubicon, a good example of the kind of characters I can create.
So I need to get my head down and work on the series bible some more. Let's hope he likes the next version.
I'm back from the festival and what a great time I had. It'll probably take me a month to email everyone I met, send scripts out, etc. It was that good.
Among the highlights of the festival where meeting James Moran, Tony Jordan, Mike Leigh and our big extended family of screenwriting bloggers.
I will be definitely going next year.
